We look after the wellbeing of Lapland’s people

The Regional Council of Lapland promotes the interests of Northern municipalities, residents and businesses in the spirit of brisk cooperation.

We promote the interests of Lapland together with our stakeholders in regional, national and international arenas. Our advocacy work is based on the regional programme, i.e. the Lapland agreement and on the themes jointly agreed with the municipalities and other stakeholders.

We convey to the world the message from the people of a region that is of medium size in terms of its population, but the largest and the most international in Finland in terms of its land area.

Open and responsible advocacy work and cooperation

We monitor and take part in the public debate, maintain a constant dialogue, gather together the views of the municipalities, and take a stand on key themes in terms of Lapland, for example, in the preparation of legislation and state budgets. We offer solutions that promote the development of a balanced society from the top of Finland down.

We also engage in debate and listen intently to the discussion taking place in international forums.

In all its operations, the Regional Council of Lapland carries out open and responsible cooperation with its partners in Lapland and across regional and state borders.

EU office promotes our interests in Brussels

The East and North Finland EU office in Brussels represents the interests of the people of Lapland and Eastern and Northern Finland. The EU office improves the competitiveness and conditions of the businesses of the east and north of Finland through the lobbying carried out in cooperation with the regional councils.
