The Regional Rescue Services of Lapland are in charge of the safety of citizens and visitors in Lapland. The tasks of the Rescue Services include the prevention of accidents, instructing people on how to act in case of accidents, and organising rescue services quickly and efficiently to all in need under all circumstances.
The administration of the Regional Rescue Services is organised under the Regional Council of Lapland.
The Rescue Services is in charge of the fire inspections of the special targets and residential buildings in its region, as stipulated by the decision on service level. The Rescue Services participate in the processing of building permits and issue statements on matters related to the use and storaging of hazardous substances.
The rescue and fire fighting operations are arranged so that a unit from the nearest fire department or department is always sent on the mission. The rescue operations are managed by the rescue service officer or the unit director of the contract fire department.
The Rescue Services are responsible for the development of civil defence. The personal resource, facility and vehicle reservations for the management and operational organisations in general civil defence are inspected annually. The air raid shelters are inspected completely every 10 years. The Rescue Services provides its expertise to the municipalities and communities in planning civil defence and in any preparative operations concerning civil defence.
First response activities:
The rescue units and contract fire departments are in charge of the first response and first responder activities in accordance with their contracts.
